Like the great stone monuments of Teotihuacán, an hour outside Mexico City, and the now-ruined Aztec temple in the city center, the sandy-colored, sloping pyramid in the Polanco neighborhood is an iconic monolith of its surroundings. In this central, tree-lined area, that means it represents luxury and the finer things in life.


 

A Tour with a Local

A few blocks away, at Laguna Cyprien, a home goods and beauty store, Olávarri takes turns testing scents laid out on a stone counter. At this modern, minimalist shop, she gets all the soaps and lotions she uses at her restaurant and at home.

 

 

"I love it because it's Mexican, and everything is made in a super natural way, zero chemicals. And you can come back to refill. It's very sustainable and very responsible," she says as she reaches for her favorite sandalwood bottle.
